Job summary

Department of Transport and Main Roads in Queensland seeks a Senior Advisor (Contractor Safety Assurance) to provide expert WHS guidance across major programs, including Bruce Highway upgrades. You will strengthen contractor safety governance, lead inspections, and advise project teams to improve safety outcomes for communities across Queensland.

The role offers a permanent, flexible full-time position with base locations in Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Mackay or Brisbane.

Qualifications

• Experience in contractor safety assurance and WHS advice across major programs.
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, governance frameworks, auditing principles and risk management.
• Experience assessing contractor performance and implementing safety improvements in complex environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement across diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of contractor safety assurance and WHS governance processes.
• Provide expert advice on contractor safety performance, risk management and continuous improvement.
• Conduct workplace visits, inspections and audits of contractor safety systems.
• Develop and review safety assurance frameworks, procedures and reporting tools.
• Analyse safety information to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Coach project teams and stakeholders to build capability in safety practices.
• Prepare reports and brief senior leaders on safety assurances and outcomes.
• Represent the organisation on safety committees and forums.
• Collaborate with health and safety professionals and project delivery teams across Queensland.
