Job summary

Qantas Airways is seeking a Senior Adviser, Corporate Communications at our Mascot Campus to lead external communications and media strategy. You will provide trusted counsel to senior executives, shaping messaging for major business initiatives and coordinating across the Group.

In this fast-paced role you will manage media relationships, respond to issues, and support communications during crises, ensuring consistency and protection of the Qantas brand globally.

The Senior Adviser, Corporate Communications is a key member of the Corporate Communications team, reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications. The role supports the delivery of the Qantas Group's external communications and media strategy, providing trusted advice to senior executives and stakeholders to help protect and enhance the Qantas brand through proactive communications, media engagement, issues management, and crisis communications.

Working closely with teams across the Group, you'll develop and execute communication strategies that support major business initiatives, operational announcements, commercial priorities and corporate events. You'll play an important role in managing media relationships, responding to emerging issues and supporting communications during critical incidents and crisis situations.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to some of the Group's most visible and high-profile communications activities while working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

You'll have:

• 5+ years’ experience in Corporate Communications, Media Relations, Public Affairs or a related communications function within a large corporate environment, ideally ASX-listed, banking or retail organisations.
• Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging and audience-focused communications.
• Proven experience providing strategic communications advice and trusted counsel to senior leaders and executive stakeholders.
• Strong media relations expertise, including a deep understanding of news cycles, reputation management, and managing high-profile issues or crisis communications.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, media contacts and key external stakeholders.
• Excellent project management, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, prioritise and manage multiple competing demands.
• Experience working in complex, fast-paced organisations undergoing change or transformation, with aviation industry experience highly regarded.
• Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related discipline
• Flexibility for 24 hour on-call media phone on weekends and weeknights (rostered basis).
