Job description

We’re on the lookout for a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join Kogan.com and support the financial operations of our New Zealand subsidiary, Mighty Ape. This role is key to ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and integrity, while also delivering commercial insights that drive decision-making and business growth.

Working from Melbourne and travelling regularly to New Zealand, you’ll collaborate closely with the Finance Manager, the wider Kogan.com team, and our Mighty Ape colleagues. This role would suit someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, loves digging into the detail, and enjoys collaborating with teams across borders.

This is an exciting opportunity that’s hands-on, varied, and allows you to work across two dynamic eCommerce markets, helping shape the financial future of a leading online retailer.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing and reviewing monthly, half-year, and year-end management and statutory accounts in line with IFRS and New Zealand regulatory requirements.
  • Overseeing and reviewing general ledger and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Delivering financial analysis and reporting to support operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with tax, audit, and other legislative obligations in New Zealand.
  • Driving process improvements to strengthen efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across finance operations.
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders, providing financial insights and advice to enable effective decision-making.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members to build capability within the Finance function.
  • Acting as a key liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and professional partners.
To be successful in this role, you should be:
  • University Degree qualified in a relevant field (Commerce, Finance, Accounting or similar)
  • CA/CPA qualified, with strong technical accounting knowledge.
  • Experienced in financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance. Experience within Retail / FMCG / eCommerce or similar will be highly regarded.
  • Skilled at interpreting and analysing financial data to provide actionable insights.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships.
  • Proficient in advanced Excel—VLOOKUP, pivot tables & complex functions. Practical ability will be assessed.
  • An excellent communicator with strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Willing to travel regularly to New Zealand as part of the role.
