Job summary

Alpha Finance and Carzie in Brisbane, Australia, is seeking a Senior Accountant to own reporting, budgets, forecasts and financial performance across our vehicle finance and leasing businesses. You will partner with the CFO and operational managers to ensure accurate month-end close and robust controls.

Qualifications

Senior Accountant

A hands-on role with ownership of reporting, cash flow and financial performance.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to work closely with the CFO and operational managers across our vehicle finance and leasing businesses.

You’ll take responsibility for accurate financial reporting, budgets, forecasts and financial controls, while staying involved in the day-to-day accounting. This role suits someone who enjoys understanding how a business operates, investigating issues and helping managers make sound commercial decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Own the month-end close and prepare monthly management accounts, including Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reporting.
• Analyse actual results against budgets and forecasts, explain key movements and recommend actions to improve margins and control costs.
• Prepare budgets and rolling forecasts, testing assumptions and identifying upcoming funding requirements.
• Business partnering and operational support: Work closely with managers on costs, margins, budgets and day-to-day operational issues. Provide practical commercial advice and follow agreed actions through to completion.
• Maintain general ledger accuracy, review journals and reconciliations, and resolve outstanding Balance Sheet items.
• Financial operations and cash management: Manage daily bank and credit card reconciliations, supplier payment runs, receivables and payroll reconciliations. Maintain weekly cash flow forecasts, monitor payment commitments and flag cash shortfalls early.
• Coordinate statutory reporting, including BAS, GST, payroll tax and superannuation, with support from external advisers where required.
• Manage the fixed asset register, depreciation, vehicle additions and disposals, and reconcile asset balances to the general ledger.
• Fleet, tolls, fines and infringements: Maintain accurate fleet records and reconcile vehicle costs. Manage toll accounts and infringement notices, identify the relevant vehicle or driver, and follow up allocation and recovery of charges within required timeframes.
• Strengthen internal controls and improve accounting processes, reporting and system integrations.
• Coordinate year-end reporting and tax requirements, and provide practical support and guidance to finance staff.

About you

• Minimum 8 years’ relevant accounting experience, including responsibility for month-end reporting and management accounting in a commercial SME environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• CA or CPA qualification preferred, with strong practical experience managing reporting and accounting responsibilities independently.
• Strong understanding of Australian accounting principles, taxation requirements and accounting standards.
• Proven experience owning month-end close, management accounts, Balance Sheet reconciliations and general ledger integrity.
• Experience preparing budgets, rolling forecasts, cash flow forecasts and financial analysis to support business decisions.
• Experience with fixed asset accounting and reconciliations.
• Proficiency in Xero or similar accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modelling and analysis of complex data.
• Strong analytical skills and commercial judgement, with the ability to explain financial issues clearly and recommend practical action.
• A hands‑on approach, strong attention to detail and the willingness to work closely with operational teams.
