Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Aboriginal communities, society, culture and related issues.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Experience supervising staff working with Aboriginal clients who have complex trauma backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including Aboriginal stakeholders.
  • Sound understanding of the custodial environment, including Commissioners’ requirements and operating procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior advice and support to multiple prison locations on cultural matters.
  • Work closely with local Aboriginal communities, ACCOs, other service providers and government departments to engage and develop trust with the community.
  • Provide on-site assistance to AWOs and Aboriginal prisoners as required.
  • Create and strengthen linkages between the prison locations, Community Correctional Services, Aboriginal community organisations, post-release support agencies and the Victorian Aboriginal community.
