Job summary

Terrex Seismic is seeking a GPS Operator to coordinate and oversee seismic survey operations across Australia. The role focuses on accurate location data, elevations and contours, while ensuring data quality and client satisfaction.

FIFO roster is 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off, with mobile field camps or motel bases near operation sites. Applicants should have at least three years of seismic survey experience, hold a C-class manual licence, and be willing to undergo medical testing and RIIVEH

Qualifications

• Three years' survey experience in seismic exploration.
• Australian work rights are required for this position.
• Must pass pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol testing.
• Formal driver training (RIIVEH201, RIIVEH305, PMASUP236B) or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Execute morning start-up procedures and check equipment.
• Perform vehicle checks and maintain cleanliness of vehicles.
• Set up base station equipment and verify coordinates/radio functionality.
• Monitor and maintain communication with base station during operation.

Terrex Seismic is one of Australia's most experienced land seismic contractors, delivering the most innovative seismic data acquisition solutions to the oil & gas, minerals, coal and research sectors. Our core business is seismic data acquisition, with a full suite of services from survey design and planning through to post-acquisition restoration services.

About the Role

The GPS Operator role is responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and managing survey operations. They are tasked with accurately determining locations, measurements, elevations, and contours on the Earth's surface within the seismic exploration industry. Ensure the collection, reduction, and quality of survey data meet client satisfaction and provide precise spatial information services efficiently.

This position is on a FIFO basis and can be Australia-wide. Our rosters are 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off ex Brisbane.

Our field crews operate from fully mobile camps in remote areas of Australia or from motels close to the area of operation. The GPS Operator is expected to be able to work at each of these facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute morning start-up procedures, including packing lunch, checking vehicle essentials, and updating necessary equipment such as UHF, GPS, and tablets
• Conduct vehicle checks according to standard protocols, ensuring fluid levels, tyre conditions, and overall vehicle integrity
• Maintain cleanliness of vehicles, specifically ensuring a clean windshield for optimal visibility
• Manage and update NAV12 files and initiate new projects, ensuring functionality and alignment with project specifications
• Collaborate with team members to discuss daily pegging plans and responsibilities
• Set up base station equipment accurately and verify coordinates and radio functionality
• Monitor and maintain communication with base station while in operation
• Ensure proper placement of pegs for start and end of survey lines on all projects
• Set up and operate GPS equipment and related technology to accurately determine locations, measurements, elevations, and contours
• Perform checks in the field each morning, midday, and afternoon, totalling at least 9 checks per day

About you

• Evidence of three (3) years' survey experience in seismic exploration.
• Minimum C class manual driver licence (minimum is P2 Provisional Licence).
• Strong background in GPS-based survey systems and mapping software desired:
• Trimble R10s and Trimble Access software.
• Global Mapper, QGIS, and ArcGIS mapping software.
• Novatels
• High level organisational and administrative skills able to prioritise own work schedules.
• Good interpersonal skills and communication skills.
• Strong performance ethic with a focus on achieving results through effective teamwork.
• Must be willing to complete and pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing.
• Formal driver training, including RIIVEH201 Operate Light Vehicle, RIIVEH305 Operate and Maintain a 4WD Vehicle, and PMASUP236B Operate Vehicles in the Field (or willingness to obtain).
