About The Team

You’ll join a team where people work with integrity, inclusion, innovation, agility, collaboration and commitment. In practice, that means sharing ownership, solving complex problems together and staying connected to the customer context, the purpose behind the work and how each role contributes to meaningful outcomes.

Mission Software Systems (MSS) brings together expertise across intelligence, software, and cloud to deliver end-to-end capability supporting the full intelligence lifecycle, from planning through to dissemination and feedback. The team fosters a culture of innovation, leveraging modern engineering practices and shared infrastructure to rapidly build, test, and deploy software solutions across a range of environments, including cloud. MSS also plays a key role in advancing technology modernisation within Government, delivering scalable and adaptable solutions for complex enterprise challenges.

The Opportunity

As a Senior DevSecOps Engineer, you will play a key role in enhancing and securing the delivery of mission-critical Defence capabilities. Working within a highly collaborative Agile environment, you will help shape the DevSecOps strategy, modernise delivery pipelines, and ensure security is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of secure CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks and cloud-native DevSecOps practices across complex Defence programs.
  • Champion security‑by‑design principles by integrating vulnerability management, compliance controls, threat detection and security tooling throughout the development and deployment lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, system engineers, architects and customer stakeholders to deliver scalable, resilient and secure solutions within an Agile delivery environment.
  • Drive platform optimisation, infrastructure as code adoption, monitoring and operational excellence while mentoring team members and promoting DevSecOps best practices across the broader engineering community.
About You

You are a DevSecOps professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and enabling teams to deliver secure, reliable and high‑performing systems. You bring a collaborative mindset, a passion for automation and a commitment to continuous improvement in both engineering and security practices.

Essential For This Role
  • Experience designing, implementing and supporting secure CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and automation practices using technologies including Terraform, Ansible and scripting languages such as Python, Bash or PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps principles, secure software development practices, vulnerability management and security tooling across the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience working with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes within cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Experience supporting Linux-based enterprise platforms and delivering secure, scalable and highly available solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within Agile teams, providing technical leadership, mentoring and continuous improvement across engineering and security practices.
Advantageous, But Not Essential
  • Experience supporting Defence, National Security or other regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks, accreditation processes and compliance requirements within government or Defence programs.
  • Experience with monitoring, observability and logging platforms such as ELK, Splunk, Grafana or Prometheus.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as Terraform Associate, AWS/Azure certifications, Kubernetes certifications, CISSP, SSCP or similar.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to engineering capability uplift initiatives.

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and hold an NV‑1 security clearance but be willing and able to uplift to an NV‑2 security clearance.

What To Expect When You Apply
  • An initial conversation with our Talent Acquisition team
  • An interview with the hiring manager or interview panel
