Job description

We are seeking a Security Adviser to join our Physical Security Management team.

As a Security Adviser, you will be responsible for evaluating and reporting on security incidents and breaches, analysing their impacts, and recommending remedial actions to mitigate future risk. You’ll oversee quality assurance activities, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, implement strategies to address findings, and ensure security services remain effective and responsive to current and emerging security requirements.

You will manage and deliver physical and electronic security services that support agency operations and business outcomes, ensuring compliance with government security frameworks, policies, procedures, and legislative requirements. You will contribute to the protection of agency personnel, assets, and facilities through effective security planning, risk management, and operational oversight.

You will supervise staff or lead a designated function, building team capability while managing complex and sensitive security matters. You’ll provide advice to stakeholders, identifying and mitigating risks, and implementing practical solutions to support agency priorities and security outcomes.

Working closely with internal and external business partners, you will deliver large scale security projects, including the maintenance of electronic security systems, and bespoke implementation of existing technologies to introduce new security controls to the ATO.

This role requires attendance in the office for 3 days per week and may involve occasional domestic travel, overtime on weekends and public holidays, and work outside standard business hours.

This role may be offered on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis in Adelaide, Canberra, Upper Mount Gravatt or Wollongong.
