Job summary

x-RD is an award-winning Australian technology company specialising in secure applications, systems integration, and AI platforms for Defence, National Security, and Government clients. We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to design and build production-grade Python applications, ranging from sensor and data processing pipelines to AI platforms and backend services.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience writing production-grade Python.
• Strong grasp of data structures, version control (Git flow), automated testing (e.g., pytest), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Tertiary qualifications, and/or equivalent professional experience, in software engineering, computer science or information technology.
• Confidence liaising with both technical and non-technical clients across Government, academic, or commercial sectors.
• Australian Citizenship is mandatory, with the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance (NV2 or above).

Responsibilities

• Design & Deliver: Build secure, performant, and maintainable Python software across data pipelines, automation, and backend architectures.
• Maintain Quality: Write well-tested code using robust automated test coverage (unit, integration, and system levels) to reduce technical debt.
• Feature Ownership: Drive assigned features to completion against project milestones, managing risks and proactively resolving blockers.
• Collaborate & Consult: Represent x-RD professionally when embedded with, or delivering to, Commonwealth clients, partners and other contractors, upholding the company's values and standards of conduct
• Continuous Improvement: Contribute to design decisions, and document functional procedures.
