The Department of Education, Western Australia, is seeking a Science Safety Advisor on a fixed-term, full-time basis from November 2026 to October 2027, with possible extension and/or permanency. The role provides scientific support, risk assessments, staff training, and safety audits across regional schools.

Ideal candidates will have strong organisational skills and the ability to deliver training to diverse audiences, including teachers and technicians, with travel across Western Australia.

Qualifications

• Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment.
• Possess Certificate IV in Laboratory Procedures or approved equivalent qualification or demonstrated relevant equivalent experience via RPL.
• Hold a current driver’s licence and have access to a vehicle.
• Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
• Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number.

Responsabilités

• Provide scientific support and technical advice to secondary science teachers and laboratory technicians to enable safe, appropriate and engaging learning experiences.
• Undertake risk assessment and safety audits related to science laboratory practices and standards in secondary schooling.
• Prepare operational laboratory work instructions for equipment and procedures.
• Deliver training to secondary science teachers and laboratory technicians.
• Facilitate a library of specialised science equipment and ensure delivery, operation and maintenance to enable access for students state-wide.
• Occasional travel to public schools across Western Australia; able to travel at short notice.
