Science and Technology Publications Coordinator

As the Science and Technology (S&T) Publications Coordinator, you will manage a small team communicating the research outcomes of the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) to the rest of Defence, industry, academia and the broader Innovation, Science and Technology (IS&T) ecosystem. Functions include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities
  • Managing the publication process of DSTG’s formal scientific and technical reports on a timely basis
  • Developing and managing the formal policies, processes and support documentation for DSTG’s S&T publications
  • Managing the DSTG Style guidelines for S&T reports
  • Managing the templates for S&T publications and corporate documents across networks
  • Managing the automated approval workflow for S&T publications in Objective – the Publication Approval Workflow
  • Editing, proof-reading and producing DSTG’s S&T Reports
  • Recommending research that can be promoted further by the DSC team
  • Providing high level advice to leadership and authors on DSTG’s publishing process, the release and announcement limitations that apply to DSTG reports and copyright issues
  • Coordinating training for individuals and groups, including one-on-one training in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat to enable authors to work efficiently
About our Team

The S&T Publications team is part of the Defence Science Communication (DSC) Directorate, which sits within Science Strategic Planning and Engagement Division in DSTG.

The Science Strategic Planning and Engagement Division is responsible for strategically positioning DSTG to deliver maximum impact for Defence. The division coordinates and develops DSTG’s external engagements and leads the development of science policy, the formulation of strategic research programs, and the investment of resources into Defence’s science and technology capabilities.

As a multidisciplinary team of trusted communication experts, DSC partners with internal and external stakeholders to produce diverse, dynamic and engaging communications that enables collaboration, shapes attitudes, builds relationships and promotes trust in Defence.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high-level editorial support for scientific and editorial publications across multiple disciplines and domains.
  • Experience in developing, coordinating and delivering scientific writing training for different audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in developing publishing policies, procedures and guides for large organisations
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying complex government policy and legalisation, particularly the Defence Security Manual and the Protective Security Framework
  • Advanced skills in records management software, such as Objective
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience in managing projects within a government context
