Job summary

Department of Education Victoria – Mildura VIC is seeking a qualified mental health professional to support students with wellbeing, safety and early intervention across schools in the Mildura region.

You will collaborate with teachers and wellbeing staff to deliver targeted support, respond to disclosures, and coordinate referrals to external services while upholding child safety standards and professional ethics.

Qualifications

• Qualified as psychologist, social worker, mental health nurse, occupational therapist or counsellor with applicable registration.
• Experience supporting vulnerable children and families in school or community settings.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with confidentiality and professionalism.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion and child safety policies.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Integrity, adaptability and resilience.

Responsibilities

• Be the first contact for students, ensuring a safe and inclusive experience.
• Complete intake, risk and safety assessments.
• Respond to disclosures of suicidal ideation with risk assessment and safety planning.
• Provide individual brief interventions and small group work.
• Link students to external services (GPs, Medicare, Centrelink) and advocate.
• Develop strategies to support positive student engagement and wellbeing.
• Participate in Wellbeing Team meetings and school events.
• Maintain accurate professional notes and documentation.
• Work across both Campuses.
