Job summary

An educational service provider based in Melbourne is seeking a School Psychologist to support students and families. The School Psychologist will provide support to our students and families. In addition, the psychologist will work with staff to enhance their capacity to cater for the diverse learning needs of our students.

This is a Permanent Full-Time opportunity based in Caulfield, VIC within our MacKillop Education Caulfield (MacKillop Specialist School). The position reports to the Campus Principal.

Key Selection Criteria

  • A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people, and their families.
  • Current registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) – Psychologist only
  • Psychology qualification (Master or Doctorate level) preferred, or a relevant degree in Counselling or Social Work.
  • Experience in an educational setting is desirable.
  • Practice knowledge relevant to working with traumatised and vulnerable children, young people, and families such as: child development and the impact of trauma; including the ability to provide therapeutic clinical assessment and trauma informed interventions.
  • A well-developed understanding of Attachment and Trauma Theories, their relationship to child abuse and neglect, and an ability to assist others to understand their associated implications.
  • Practice knowledge relevant to working with neurodivergent children and young people, and a well- developed understanding of the social model of disability and the ability to provide neuro-affirmative interventions.
  • Experience in working with primary school students who are vulnerable and present with social, emotional and/or cognitive differences.
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary framework, including educational staff.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop positive relationships with students, parents, caregivers, staff, and external agencies.
  • Evidence of personal values consistent with the values of MacKillop Family Services including a willingness to embrace the Sanctuary Model and Commitments.
