Mackay State High School is seeking a Sports Academy Director to provide strategic leadership across our five Sporting Academies and play a key role in coaching within our Rugby League Academy.

This is an opportunity to lead a program that develops students' sporting ability, leadership, wellbeing and future pathways.

Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Principal or nominated delegate, the Sports Academy Director will lead the operations, budget, workforce resourcing and strategic growth of the school's five Sporting Academies.

A key component of the role will be directly delivering Rugby League coaching and supporting player development and wellbeing within our boys' and girls' programs.

The Director will also work closely with the Gold Coast Titans, sporting organisations and community partners to strengthen opportunities across our academies.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide strategic leadership across the five Sporting Academies, establishing clear priorities for participation, development, performance and sustainable growth.


• Play a key role in planning and delivering Rugby League coaching, including player development, team preparation and competition readiness.


• Lead, coordinate and support program staff, specialist coaches, instructors and volunteers, including recruitment and allocation of responsibilities to deliver safe and effective programs.


• Strengthen the school's partnership with the Gold Coast Titans and develop relationships with sporting bodies, clubs, businesses and community organisations.


• Develop sporting and personal development pathways that support students' progression while reinforcing educational engagement, wellbeing and future study and employment opportunities.


• Work with school leaders, teachers and coaches to coordinate academy activities and support students to balance sporting commitments with their learning.


• Establish clear expectations and transparent selection processes, building a positive academy culture centred on commitment, preparation, teamwork and personal responsibility.


• Coordinate competitions, tours and development experiences, including transport, equipment and associated logistics.


• Manage program budgets, assets and equipment, including strategic purchasing and maintenance.


• Communicate effectively with students, families, staff and external partners.


• Monitor participation, student development and program outcomes to inform ongoing improvement.


• Implement departmental requirements relating to risk management, workplace health and safety, child safety and program delivery.
