Job summary

The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network seeks Staff Specialists for the Cancer Centre for Children at Westmead to deliver high‑quality cancer care for children and adolescents. You will engage in a streamed model of care, contribute to trials, and participate in education and research within a MDT framework.

Applicants should have specialist registration in Paediatric Oncology, with experience in haematological malignancies, CNS or solid tumours, and be committed to teaching and quality

Qualifications

• Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Paediatric Oncology.
• Training comparable to the RACP Specialist Advisory Committee in Medical Oncology.
• Pertinent clinical experience in paediatric oncology including haematological malignancies and CNS/Solid tumours.

The Cancer Centre for Children at The Children's Hospital at Westmead is seeking passionate and dedicated Staff Specialists to join our team. Permanent Appointments:1.9 FTE Temporary Appointments: 0.2 FTE until 30 June 2028

What you'll be doing

• To work as a core member of the Cancer Centre for Children at The Children's Hospital at Westmead providing comprehensive, high-quality care to children and adolescents with cancer.
• This role is intended to support the Cancer Centre’s transition to a streamed model of care.
• We are recruiting clinicians with demonstrated experience or a strong interest in haematological malignancies and/or CNS tumours and /or Solid tumours.
• To participate actively in the development, conduct and oversight of clinical trials as principal investigator, including early phase clinical trials.
• To fully participate in the Multidisciplinary team approach to care and contribution to the hospital in the area of research, education and advocacy.
• To participate in the development and implementation of novel cancer therapies, either within the laboratory, or in the translation of novel therapies to the clinic.
• To ensure that clinical services are centered on improving and delivering excellence in clinical care for children and supporting their families.
• Participate in reviews and quality improvement activities, and training and education of staff.
• Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

• Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist, Paediatric Oncologist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
• Training comparable to the requirements of the RACP Specialist Advisory Committee in Medical Oncology.
• Pertinent clinical experience in the management of the wide spectrum of paediatric oncology diseases, across the clinical management of children and adolescents with haematological malignancies and/or CNS tumours and /or Solid tumours and related disorders within Oncology services.
• Experience in the design and conduct of laboratory experiments and/or prospective clinical trials.
• Commitment to participate in peer review, quality improvement, patient safety and risk assessment with a commitment to teaching.
• Evidence of continuing professional development together with evidence with commitment to the goals of an organisation in which the applicant has worked beyond direct patient care.
• Demonstrate the ability to identify, initiate, implement and evaluate clinical quality improvement within the Oncology service.
• Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.
