Job summary

NSW Health Westmead is seeking a Senior Social Worker to provide comprehensive assessment and therapeutic services to adolescents and their families at the Complex Adolescent Clinic, a tertiary multi-disciplinary service addressing chronic physical symptoms and psychosocial complexities.

As a senior staff member, you will lead clinically, apply advanced therapeutic skills, manage complex cases, and advocate for patients within inpatient and outpatient settings.

Qualifications

• Significant postgraduate experience in health/mental health settings with adolescents.
• Advanced psychosocial assessment, individual counselling, family therapy and groupwork.
• Experience providing clinical supervision and leading service planning or research/quality improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment and therapeutic services to adolescents and families at the Complex Adolescent Clinic.
• Demonstrate clinical leadership, advanced therapeutic skills and case management.
• Advocate for patients with complex psychosocial issues within inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Deliver psychosocial interventions, especially family-based interventions, for adolescents in inpatient rehabilitation.
• Contribute to psychosocial team activities including supervision and clinical consultation.

What you'll be doing

The Department of Adolescent Medicine provides specialist services for adolescents and their families in a range of clinical areas including complex adolescent, eating disorders, gender, drug and alcohol, gynaecological and chronic illness self management and transition. Services include inpatient and outpatient care with a strong focus on family support and engagement in all clinical areas. In addition there is a strong focus on research through the Academic Department of Adolescent Medicine, and education and training for health professionals. The clinical work of the department occurs in the context of interdisciplinary care with medical, nursing and allied heath staff working together to provide care.

This position Senior Social Work position provides a comprehensive assessment and therapeutic service to adolescents and their families attending the Complex Adolescent Clinic. The Complex Adolescent Clinic is a tertiary multi-disciplinary service supporting adolescents with chronic physical symptoms and psychosocial complexities impairing their day to day function. As a senior staff member it is expected that this position will provide a high degree of clinical leadership through advanced therapeutic skills, case management and the ability to advocate in the face of complex psychosocial issues. Additionally, this position will provide the social work service to the adolescent ward and provide psychosocial interventions, particularly family-based intervention, for adolescents receiving inpatient rehabilitation for their complex symptoms. The capacity to contribute to the psychosocial team in group clinical supervision and clinical consultation on difficult cases will be an important part of the role.

• Recognised degree in Social Work with eligibility for membership of the AASW.
• Significant post graduate experience working with adolescents and their families in a health or mental health setting.
• Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge and understanding of adolescents' physical, psychological and social development.
