Job summary

Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is seeking a Certified Perfusionist to support complex cardiac surgery, ECMO, and the Heart Transplant and VAD Program in a world-class paediatric setting. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care for children and their families.

Join a leading paediatric cardiac service and contribute to on-site opportunities in the operating theatres, PICU and transplant suites while advancing paediatric perfusion services through education

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or other relevant degree and holding an Australian CCP or equivalent.
  • Current certification with the Australasian Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or SCHN-equivalent.
  • Ability to liaise effectively and demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and ability to congenially interact with colleagues, patients and relatives from all walks of life.
  • Sound organisational skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in the on call roster and regular overtime arrangements.
  • Intermediate computer skills including proficiency in MS Office and data management systems.
  • Greater than 5 years post perfusion qualification experience in adult or paediatric CPB is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability and a desire to advance Paediatric Perfusion Services,including ongoing education, quality improvement, managing areas within a service driven team environment and teaching is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide functions necessary for support, treatment, measurement or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary system.
  • Operate and maintain extracorporeal circulatory equipment in collaboration with surgical, anaesthetic and ICU staff.
  • Primary locations include cardiac operating theatre, PICU and transplant theatres; may work in other areas.

What you'll be doing

The purpose of the position is to provide those functions necessary for support, treatment, measurement or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient. The Perfusionist performs advanced work in the selection, preparation, operation and maintenance of extracorporeal circulatory equipment. These duties are performed in close cooperation with surgical, anaesthetic and intensive care staff and in accordance with hospital policy. The primary locations of work are the cardiac operating theatre, PICU, invasive radiology suite and the transplant operating theatre, however the possibility exists of working in other areas.
