Job summary

Custom Steel Fab in Townsville, QLD is seeking an experienced Sandblaster and Painter to join our team. You will perform surface preparation and protective coating application across steel construction and mining projects, in workshops or on-site, with a focus on quality finishes and safe, efficient work.

This hands-on role requires knowledge of abrasive blasting, coating systems, and the ability to read specifications.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in sandblasting and industrial/protective coating application.
• Sound knowledge of surface preparation standards and coating systems.
• Ability to read and interpret coating specifications and job instructions.
• Current driver's licence.
• Forklift/EWP tickets highly regarded but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces using abrasive blasting to required industry standards.
• Apply protective coatings, primers, and paint systems.
• Inspect surfaces for correct profile and cleanliness prior to coating.
• Mix paints and coatings to specification.
• Maintain and perform basic upkeep of blasting and spray equipment.
• Work to project timelines and quality/safety standards.
• Complete quality checklists, dry film thickness readings, and job documentation.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and comply with WHS requirements.

Job description

We're looking for an experienced Sandblaster and Painter to join our team in Townsville. You'll be responsible for surface preparation and protective coating application across a range of structural steel construction & mining projects. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in quality finishes and works safely and efficiently in a workshop or on-site environment.

What You'll Be Doing

• Preparing surfaces using abrasive blasting (sand, grit, garnet) to required industry standards.
• Applying protective coatings, primers, and paint systems.
• Inspecting surfaces for correct profile and cleanliness prior to coating.
• Mixing paints and coatings to specification.
• Maintaining and performing basic upkeep of blasting and spray equipment.
• Working to project timelines and quality/safety standards.
• Completing quality checklists, dry film thickness (DFT) readings, and job documentation.
• Maintaining a clean, safe work area and complying with WHS requirements.

What We're Looking For
