Job summary

ALS in Brisbane is seeking a proactive Sample Preparation Trainer to lead training at our north Brisbane facility. You’ll coordinate inductions, hands-on equipment training, and safety/quality programs to elevate production and workforce development.

Ideal candidates bring sample prep experience, strong communication, and a proactive safety mindset. The role involves working in a dusty, noisy environment, with opportunities to shape a high-performing team and ensure compliance across site

Qualifications

  • Experience in sample preparation environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of HSE and quality compliance practices.
  • Ability to clearly communicate instructions to staff and ensure understanding.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of production targets and throughput.
  • Willingness to work in dusty/noisy environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality service and safety.
  • Forklift licence is advantageous but not essential.
  • Qualifications in Training & Assessment or HSE/Quality are advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate inductions and role-specific training for new employees.
  • Train staff on operation of mineral sample preparation equipment (sorting, drying, weighing, crushing, etc.).
  • Train all staff on procedures, equipment, safety, quality and production aspects of their role.
  • Supervise staff to ensure safety, quality and productivity standards are met; provide coaching.
  • Monitor ergonomic movements to minimize manual handling injuries.
  • Monitor dust generation and ensure exposure is minimized.
  • Maintain workspace cleanliness and organization to reduce injury risk.
  • Maintain training records and compliance documentation.
  • Develop and update training materials, guides and resources.
  • Monitor training effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Support site HSE and QC training schedules and LMS administration.
  • Collaborate with leadership to build site capability.

We’re searching for an exceptional Sample Preparation Trainer to manage all our training at our sample preparation facility in Zillmere, north Brisbane.

The day to day

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate inductions and role-specific training for new employees
  • Training staff in the operation of mineral sample preparation equipment (sample sorting, drying, weighing of samples by making use of a balance and LIMS, crushing samples, etc.)
  • Training all staff on the correct procedures, equipment, safety, quality and production aspects of their role
  • Supervise staff to ensure requirements of Safety, Quality and Productivity are maintained consistently, providing coaching and support where required.
  • Monitor the ergonomic movements of staff to minimize risk of manual handling injury
  • Montior the generation of dust if to ensure staff are minimizing exposure through correct handling of samples and use of equipment and infrastructure
  • Monitor the workspace to ensure it is kept clean, tidy and orderly to reduce risk of injury due to poor housekeeping
  • Maintain training records and compliance documentation
  • Develop and update training materials, guides, and resources
  • Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness and recommend improvements
  • Consulting with new starters to support them through new physicality of the job at hand, rotating tasks to avoid muscle injury and applying principles of work conditioning programs
  • Support implementation of all site HSE and QC training and competency schedules
  • Support LMS administration and Group Training for other related training
  • Work with the Leadership team to identify and build capability across the site
The Essentials

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Previous sample preparation experience will be an advantage
  • Knowledge of HSE and Quality compliance and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate instructions to staff and ensure understanding
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting
  • Understanding of production targets
  • Willing to work in a dusty and noisy environment
  • Always set a high example and deliver quality service
  • Forklift licence (advantageous but not essential)
  • Qualification in Training & Assessment, and/or HSE or Quality (advantageous but not essential)
