Job description

As a Safety Coordinator you will enable a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace for employees through safety management, collaborative work practices and timely advice. This is a part-time position that will focus on Work Health and Safety (WHS) through implementing, maintaining and continually improving processes and systems in the WHS management system.

About you
  • Formal qualifications in workplace health and safety management
  • Demonstrated experience (2+ years) and successful track record in applying safety management principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and application of WHS related legislation and Australian Standards.
  • Formal qualifications in incident/accident and hazard investigative techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in workers’ compensation and return to work coordination
  • Well-developed analytical and report writing skills.
  • Solid computer and record keeping skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills.
About the role
  • Triage, investigate and report on WHS hazards and incidents.
  • Conduct WHS audits / inspections and report results.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to mitigate risks.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of emergency management plans.
  • Coordinate workers compensation claims and return to work strategies.
  • Attend and act as secretariat to the relevant safety meetings
  • Stay up to date with industry regulations, standards, and best practices to ensure compliance

About Us

The mission of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is to provide excellence in aeromedical and primary health care across Western Australia. Every member of the RFDS WO team contributes to that mission and living our values of showing respect, demonstrating fairness, utilising diversity and being safe. Every year, the RFDS WO provides urgent retrieval for about 10,000 patients in regional WA. A further 10,000 appointments are provided in primary healthcare clinics in remote communities, including GP, nurse, dental and mental health care. RFDS crews are committed to providing the finest care to the furthest corners of the State, using the highest standards of clinical care, aviation safety and technology to make a difference to people living and working across WA – the largest and most remote health jurisdiction in the world.

The RFDS in WA operates five bases in Perth, Broome, Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie and Meekatharra. Our 24/7 operations centre at Jandakot Airport coordinates complex logistics for patient retrievals and clinics across the State. We work in partnership with government, business and the community, and are proud to work on Country with Aboriginal medical services and many local service providers.

In 2024, the RFDS WO launched a new five-year strategy ‘Above and Beyond’, which will mark an important new chapter in the long Flying Doctor history. The strategy will include a focus on expanding remote health clinics in some of WA’s most vulnerable communities, expanding our profit-for-purpose services, strengthening our workforce, harnessing technology and addressing our environmental sustainability.
