Job summary

Howden Insurance Brokers Australia is seeking a Safety Consultant to design, deliver and audit practical injury prevention programs across a diverse client portfolio in Sydney. You’ll start with musculoskeletal prevention, inspections and training, and expand into psychosocial risk, safety leadership and technology transformation.

You will grow through mentoring, lead projects for multiple clients and build trusted relationships while advancing to senior levels within a nationwide practice.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in work health and safety, occupational health and safety or a closely related discipline.
• 3+ years’ experience in a safety, WHS or injury prevention role.
• A completed ISO 45001 Lead Auditor or Auditor course.
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent).
• Demonstrated experience delivering musculoskeletal injury prevention programs, including manual handling risk assessment and control.
• Demonstrated experience completing workplace inspections, audits and/or assurance programs, and reporting findings to management.
• A working knowledge of Australian WHS/OHS legislation, along with Codes of Practice, compliance codes and regulator guidance, including current psychosocial obligations.

Responsibilities

• Design, deliver and run musculoskeletal injury prevention programs, from task risk assessment through to training, coaching and evaluation.
• Complete workplace inspections, audits and assurance reviews, translating findings into clear, practical and defensible recommendations.
• Develop and facilitate safety training for frontline teams, supervisors and leaders, drawing on Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
• Work alongside Howden Care on early intervention and injury management initiatives, providing prevention insights for return-to-work outcomes.
• Turn incident, hazard and claims data into insight that shapes clients' prevention effort.
• Grow capability across advisory offer including psychosocial risk management and safety systems.

The opportunity

We’re looking for a safety professional who is seeking active involvement in the design of injury prevention strategies that eliminate or reduce the frequency and severity of workplace injuries, rather than responding after they do.

Joining our safety & prevention team as a Safety Consultant based in Sydney, you’ll design, deliver and audit practical injury prevention programs for a diverse client portfolio i.e. from complex industrial operations through to office-based and community-facing workplaces.

You’ll start where your existing capability is immediately valuable, musculoskeletal injury prevention programs, workplace inspections, audits and assurance programs, and grow from there into the full breadth of our advisory offer, including psychosocial risk, management systems, safety leadership and culture, and technology transformation.

It's a role with real breadth: no two clients (or weeks) look the same, and you'll be supported to grow your capability and take on more responsibility as you develop.

Where you'll start

Where you'll grow

With mentoring from senior colleagues, you'll build capability across our wider advisory offer, including:

• WHS/OHS compliance, governance and gap analysis engagements.
• Psychosocial risk management, including ISO 45003 and current regulator expectations.
• Safety management system design and implementation against ISO 45001.
• Safety leadership, officer due diligence and culture maturity programs.
• Digital and technology transformation, helping clients select and implement safety platforms.
• Board and executive advisory, building towards facilitating at that level over time.
• Contributing to the tools, methodologies and IP that shape our advisory offer.

How the role develops

During your first six to twelve months you’ll focus on getting to know your clients and our methodologies, leading delivery in the injury prevention and assurance space where your existing skills are immediately valuable, while working alongside senior colleagues on broader safety engagements. Over time, we’d expect you to be independently running your own programs, building trusted client relationships, and contributing to new work.

From there, the pathway to Senior Associate and beyond is clear for those who want it, with genuine mentoring, support and the opportunity to grow within a growing national practice.

About you

• Confidence facilitating training, toolbox sessions or education with frontline workers and leaders.
• An interest in moving into client-facing consulting, and the organisation to manage several projects and clients at once.
• Confidence with data and analytics to turn information into insight (including Excel).
• A genuine passion for creating new programs of work that make a genuine difference in our clients’ workplaces.
• A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel intra/interstate and occasionally overnight.
