Job summary

Mackellar is seeking a Safety Advisor to join our site team in a hands-on coal mining environment on the Queensland regional operations. You’ll provide practical HSE support, ensure compliance, and help foster a strong safety culture while assisting with day-to-day administration to keep the site running smoothly.

Reporting to site leadership, you’ll conduct inspections, support incident investigations, and develop site-specific procedures.

Qualifications

• Coal mining safety experience and practical HSE knowledge.
• Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety is required or equivalent.
• Current G1, G8, G9 and G2 certifications or willingness to obtain.
• Current Queensland Driver Licence.
• Strong understanding of HSE systems, risk management and legislative requirements.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while supporting supervisors and site leadership.
• Practical, solutions-focused approach to safety.

Responsibilities

• Providing practical and technical HSE support to site leadership and operational teams.
• Promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with Mackellar policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
• Conducting site inspections, audits and safety observations.
• Supporting incident and investigation processes and ensuring corrective actions are effectively closed out.
• Assisting with the development, review and implementation of site-specific safety procedures and initiatives.
• Monitoring compliance with the HSE Management System.
• Supporting risk assessments, hazard identification and control implementation.
• Providing safety advice and guidance to supervisors and employees.
• Maintaining safety records, registers, reporting and other site documentation.
• Assisting with safety reporting, document control and general site administration.
• Building strong working relationships across the site to support safe and productive operations.

About the role

This is a hands‑on site‑based Safety Advisor position. Working closely with supervisors, managers and the broader site‑based maintenance team, you’ll provide practical safety support, help maintain compliance and contribute to a strong safety culture while supporting the day‑to‑day administration required to keep the site running effectively.

About you

We’re looking for an experienced Safety Advisor who is confident working in a coal mining environment and can build effective relationships with operational teams.

You will have:

• Previous experience as a Safety Advisor within a coal mining environment
• Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety
• Current G1, G8, G9 and G2, or willingness to obtain
• Current Queensland Driver Licence
• Strong understanding of HSE systems, risk management and legislative requirements
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• The ability to work independently while also supporting supervisors and site leadership
• A practical, solutions‑focused approach to safety

Only candidates with relevant coal mining experience and the required qualifications will be considered.
