Job summary

Laing O’Rourke is seeking a Safety Advisor to support Australia’s largest-ever defence infrastructure program, working with the AUKUS team on the NPSCY project in Osborne, South Australia. The role focuses on HSE data analysis, governance, and close collaboration with supervision to maintain high safety standards on a high-risk construction site.

The successful candidate will hold an OHS qualification, have experience in high-risk environments, and be able to obtain NV1 level security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Certificate IV OHS and/or Graduate Certificate or Diploma in OHS or Risk Management.
  • Experience assisting supervision and management with HSE issue closeout.
  • Experience managing site-based hazards and conducting safety inspections.
  • Background in high-risk construction industry.
  • Understanding of environmental risk management.
  • Australian citizenship and ability to obtain NV1 security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse HSE data and trends to identify performance improvements.
  • Monitor key project HSE metrics and provide regular reporting.
  • Coach teams on HSE systems and contractual requirements.
  • Conduct HSE inspections, audits, pre-starts and toolbox talks.
  • Monitor HSE and Rail Safety governance and drive remedial actions.

Laing O’Rourke, with joint venture partner Amentum Australia, will play a central role in supporting Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) to develop and deliver the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY) project at Osborne, South Australia. We will provide program and construction management services of nuclear related civil infrastructure, site‑wide nuclear licensee development expertise, and nuclear safety leadership.

We are currently seeking a Safety Advisor to join our AUKUS team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse HSE data and trends to identify performance improvements.
  • Monitor key project HSE metrics and provide regular reporting.

  • Conduct HSE inspections, audits, pre-starts and toolbox talks.
  • Monitor HSE and Rail Safety governance and drive remedial actions.
About You
  • Certificate IV OHS and or working towards Graduate Certificate, Diploma OHS, Certificate in Risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience in assisting supervision and management with HSE issue / action closeout within the workplace.
  • Has been effective in managing site-based hazards and risks and able to plan and carry out safety inspections.
  • Previous experience working in high-risk construction industry.
  • Understands basic environmental risk management.
  • Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level.
