Job summary

UNSW Rural, Port Macquarie campus, seeks a Wellness Support Advisor, Rural to provide social, emotional, health and wellbeing support to rural students through triage, assessment and short solutions-based therapy.

The role collaborates with the Faculty Wellbeing Officer and local staff, and liaises with central services (Mental Health Connect, Psychology and Wellness, Equitable Learning) and the broader UNSW Medicine & Health community.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification with post-qualifying experience in psychology, counselling, occupational therapy, social work, or mental health nursing.
• Experience with psychosocial support needs, including risk assessments and short-term interventions.
• Ability to navigate administrative processes, consult stakeholders, and advocate for students.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with empathy for rural students.
• Experience delivering high-quality support programs to diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• The Wellness Support Advisor, Rural provides support for rural students with social, emotional, health and wellbeing needs through triage, assessment and short solutions-based therapy.
• Works closely with the Faculty Wellbeing Officer and staff at local Rural Clinical Campus sites, and with local services such as the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMPH).
• liaises with UNSW Central Services such as Mental Health Connect, Psychology and Wellness, Equitable Learning Service and Student Support Team, and with the UNSW Medicine and Health community.
• Plays a critical role in supporting students through a positive approach to wellbeing that enhances the student experience.
• Develop a work schedule with the Manager, Rural to ensure on-campus availability Tue–Thu at the identified campus and occasional support at Coffs Harbour, as required.
