Job summary

WSP Global Inc. in Brisbane is seeking a roadway lighting and electrical Civil Engineer to join our growing team. You will design, plan and install power systems, street lights, and underground infrastructure for roads and public spaces, collaborating with our Specialist Lighting group.

This role offers a hybrid work model, opportunities to work on iconic projects, develop consultancy skills, manage client relationships, and contribute to local and national building projects in Queensland.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s to Master’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Experience in roadway lighting and electrical Civil projects.
• Knowledge of QLD Design Standards and Codes for lighting.
• Proven ability to deliver multiple projects concurrently.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and client relationship skills.

Responsibilities

• Lighting design: calculate uniform illuminance and luminance for safety.
• Electrical & control systems: design power distribution and control cabinets.
• Civil & structural layout: plan pole foundations and trenching alignment.

A roadway lighting and electrical civil engineer designs, plans, and installs power systems, streetlights, traffic signals, and underground infrastructure for roads, highways, and public spaces. This role presents the opportunity to work within an established team of highly skilled engineers and contribute towards the success of our Specialist Lighting group in Brisbane.

This exciting role will see you develop new consultancy skills, foster valued client relationships, manage project performance and promote our culture of technical and professional excellence, all within our supportive team environment.

The Specialist Division of WSP includes other value add disciplines including Acoustics, Fire Engineering, Sustainability, Facades, Waste, Program Delivery, and Technology Systems to name a few. Our team of lighting designers come from diverse backgrounds, including, theatre stage lighting, electrical engineering, interior design, industrial design and product design. Key responsibilities – What you’ll do

• Lighting Design: Calculates uniform illuminance and luminance levels to remove dark spots and improve night driving safety.
• Electrical & Control Systems: Designs power distribution, feeder pillars, control cabinets with photocells/timers, and circuit layouts (such as alternating A/B circuits).
• Civil & Structural Layout: Plans pole foundations, conduit runs, pit/pull-box placements, and trenching relative to kerbs and utility lines.
• Standards & Compliance: Ensures designs meet local road authority rules (such as Department of Transport and Main Roads [DTMR] or energy distributor specs like Ergon and Energex in Queensland).

About You - Required Experience & Skills

• Bachelor’s to Masters Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Local industry experience within Queensland working on roadway lighting and electrical Civil engineering projects is essential.
• Existing knowledge of QLD Design Standards and Codes, local and client requirements on lighting design projects.
• Prior experience in effectively delivering multiple, concurrent projects ranging in scale and sector.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including developing new and maintaining existing client relationships, and collaborating effectively with colleagues on projects.
