Job summary

Tenterfield Shire Council in NSW is seeking a hands-on Leading Hand (Roads – Sealed) to supervise a small crew responsible for sealed road maintenance and rehabilitation across the Shire. This full-time role requires strong leadership, adherence to WHS standards, and effective coordination of traffic control and plant operations.

The position emphasises mentoring staff, implementing safe work practices, and delivering high-quality roadworks that support the community’s needs.

Qualifications

• Supervisory experience in civil construction or road maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of WHS practices and traffic control qualifications.
• NSW HR Driver’s Licence and ability to operate civil plant/equipment.
• Relevant certificates are highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Supervising sealed roads maintenance and rehabilitation activities.
• Leading and mentoring crew members and contractors.
• Implementing and monitoring safe work practices, including toolbox talks, risk assessments and SWMS.
• Overseeing traffic control setups and ensuring compliance with Traffic Control Plans.
• Allocating daily tasks in line with works programs, reporting on progress, and operating plant.

Join our Infrastructure team as a full-time Leading Hand (Roads – Sealed) based in Tenterfield, NSW. In this hands-on supervisory role, you will lead a small team responsible for sealed road maintenance and rehabilitation works across the Shire to deliver roads the community can rely on.

Duties

• Supervising sealed roads maintenance and rehabilitation activities
• Leading and mentoring crew members and contractors
• Implementing and monitoring safe work practices, including toolbox talks, risk assessments and SWMS
• Overseeing traffic control setups and ensuring compliance with approved Traffic Control Plans
• Allocating daily tasks in line with works programs, reporting on progress, and operating plant

Skills & Experience

• Certificate IV in Civil Construction Operations (or equivalent)
• Demonstrated supervisory experience in civil construction or road maintenance environments
• Strong knowledge of WHS practices and current Traffic Controller and Traffic Management qualifications
• NSW Class HR Driver’s Licence and proven ability to operate relevant civil plant and equipment
• Certificate IV in Frontline Management, Diploma in Civil Construction, or First Aid Certificate (highly regarded)
• 9 Day Fortnight and 4 weeks accumulative Annual Leave
