Job summary

Transport for NSW invites applications for a Road Safety Planning Manager (Temporary up to 10 months) based in Sydney at Macquarie Park. You will lead strategic road safety initiatives, shaping policy, planning and program delivery across NSW in a matrix environment.

The role requires 3-5 years in senior road safety or transport planning, strong stakeholder engagement, and the ability to manage priorities. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement with Milsons Point and Macquarie Park

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in a senior road safety, transport planning, traffic engineering, network management, or related role.
• Demonstrated experience applying Safe System Assessment/SSA (or similar) methodologies to evaluate transport projects, policies, and infrastructure initiatives.
• Highly organised and analytical professional with the ability to manage multiple priorities, influence outcomes, negotiate effectively, and deliver high-quality results within tight deadlines.
• Extensive leadership/SME capabilities and experience building and maintaining strategic stakeholder relationships to support complex policy development and project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of road safety strategies that influence long-term multimodal transport and place-based planning across NSW.
• Partner with senior management, government agencies, and key stakeholders to ensure road safety considerations are integrated into transport and urban planning decisions.

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, policy, industry trends and best-practice approaches in road safety and transport planning.

In this role, you will:

Play a critical leadership role in developing and delivering strategic road safety initiatives that support Transport for NSW's vision for a safe, connected, and customer-focused transport network.

Working within a matrixed environment, the role leads the planning, implementation, and evaluation of road safety strategies that influence long-term multimodal transport and place based planning across NSW. Partnering with senior management, government agencies, and key stakeholders, the role ensures road safety considerations are integrated into transport and urban planning decisions, contributing to the achievement of NSW Government road safety objectives.

This role operates with a high degree of autonomy, managing competing priorities and delivering strategic projects within agreed timeframes and milestones. It requires strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration across Transport for NSW and government agencies, including representing the organisation on committees and working groups to influence policy and planning outcomes. The successful candidate will maintain a strong understanding of emerging legislation, policy, industry trends and best-practice approaches in road safety and transport planning, ensuring Transport for NSW's strategies remain contemporary, evidence based and aligned with government priorities.

For you to be successful within this role you should meet with all the following criteria:

• Proven experience (3-5 years) in a senior road safety, transport planning, traffic engineering, network management, or related role, with a proven track record of leading strategic policy, planning, and road safety initiatives within a complex stakeholder environment
• Demonstrated experience applying Safe System Assessment/SSA (or similar) methodologies to evaluate transport projects, policies, and infrastructure initiatives, and identify opportunities to reduce fatal and serious injury crash risks
• Highly organised and analytical professional with the ability to manage multiple priorities, influence outcomes, negotiate effectively, and deliver high-quality results within tight deadlines
• Extensive leadership/SME capabilities and experience building and maintaining strategic stakeholder relationships to support complex policy development and project delivery

This is afixed term opportunity, until 30 June 2027 in a hybrid working environment, with 50% of your time typically spent between our Milsons Point and Macquarie Park offices.

This is a Grade 9 role, paying between$163,145.00 - $182,721.00 + super. The grade level will be assessed based on your relevant skills, experiences, capabilities, and qualifications etc.
