Job summary

icare is seeking a Risk and Assurance Lead to influence how risk is understood and managed across NSW workers compensation schemes. You will partner with leaders to identify risks, strengthen controls and support better decision-making.

A collaborative team will rely on you to build risk capability through practical advice and coaching. The role is based in NSW with hybrid work options, including up to 3 days in office and Sydney presence one day per week.

Qualifications

• Experience in risk management within a regulated environment (insurance/workers' compensation preferred).
• Ability to identify risks, assess controls and provide practical risk guidance.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Experience leading risk workshops and governance forums.

About the role

Strong risk and governance practices protect the services, assets and schemes that people across NSW rely on.

As Risk and Assurance Lead, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how risk is understood and managed across Workers Compensation, partnering with leaders and teams to identify emerging risks, strengthen controls and support better decision-making.

You’ll join a collaborative team of five and take a lead focus on risk, while working closely with colleagues across controls and projects. This is a visible role where you’ll build trusted relationships across the business, confidently challenge thinking and help others build their risk capability through practical advice, coaching and knowledge sharing.

The role can be based in Sydney, Gosford or Wollongong, with attendance in Sydney at least one day per week.

What you’ll be working on

• Partner with leaders and teams to identify, assess and manage business and scheme risks.
• Lead risk workshops and strengthen risk registers, controls and ongoing monitoring.
• Provide practical risk and control advice across transformation, change and emerging business priorities.
• Investigate complex incidents and risk themes, helping teams understand root causes and develop effective controls.
• Lead risk forums and contribute meaningful insights and reporting for senior leaders and governance committees.
• Review and challenge remediation plans arising from audit findings to support sustainable improvements.
• Build risk capability across the business through coaching, knowledge sharing and constructive challenge.
• Identify opportunities to continuously improve risk practices and mitigate future risks.

What you’ll bring

• Strong experience in risk management within a regulated environment, ideally insurance or workers compensation.
• Formal tertiary qualifications in management, business, finance or a relevant discipline.
• Experience assessing risks and controls and using sound judgement to work through complex issues.
• Confidence engaging with people at different levels, from operational teams through to General Managers and senior leaders.
• The ability to communicate risk clearly, influence decisions and respectfully speak up when a different perspective is needed.
• A curious and proactive approach, with an interest in learning, sharing knowledge and helping others strengthen their risk capability.
• A continuous improvement mindset and the ability to look beyond immediate issues to identify opportunities to reduce future risk.
