Job summary

Filtronic is seeking a practical, technically minded Engineering Technician to join our Cambridge-based engineering team. You will work across RF, electronics and mechanical development, turning designs into working prototypes and test setups for telecommunications, space and defence applications.

The role is lab- and workshop-focused, supporting measurements, soldering, wiring, 3D printing and production handover, with opportunities to grow across disciplines in a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Practical experience in electronics, RF, manufacturing or a similar engineering environment.
• Experience using electronic test equipment.
• Experience with soldering and/or PCB rework.
• Basic scripting or test-automation experience, preferably using Python or MATLAB.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
• Experience with cable or wiring-harness assembly would be beneficial.
• Experience with 3D printing, CAD or CNC machining would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Setting up and carrying out RF and electronic measurements.
• Operating test and measurement equipment including network analysers, signal generators, power meters and oscilloscopes.
• Connecting laboratory instruments to PCs using Ethernet, USB, GPIB and serial interfaces.
• Running and making simple changes to Python scripts used for automated testing and data collection.
• Supporting soldering, PCB rework, prototype fault-finding and component replacement.
• Manufacturing cables, RF cable assemblies and electrical wiring harnesses.
• Assembling mechanical parts, enclosures and complete prototype units.
• Producing simple components, fixtures and test jigs using 3D printing and CNC equipment.
• Maintaining laboratory tools, equipment and components.
• Recording test results accurately and maintaining appropriate engineering records.
• Working with engineers to resolve practical engineering problems and support progression from prototype to production.
