Job summary

KBR in Australia is seeking a Countermeasures Engineer (Defence Electronics & RF Systems) to join our specialised team. You will review designs, support testing, and ensure mission-critical capabilities meet Defence standards while interfacing with engineers and stakeholders across projects.

You will manage documentation, contribute to field trials, and support governance and certification processes in a dynamic defence environment.

Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum three years' post-graduate engineering experience.
  • Technical Proficiency Level 4, or ability to attain.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering within Defence projects.
  • Experience within Defence Joint or Land domains in past five years.
  • Experience in RF, communications, electronic warfare, or related systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • CPEng status or ability to achieve.
  • Experience supporting acquisition, delivery, or introduction into service of Defence RF systems.
  • Experience planning and executing Test & Evaluation activities, including DT&E and AT&E.
  • Experience working within Defence engineering management, governance, and certification frameworks.
  • Australian citizenship and a current NV1 Security Clearance with ability to obtain NV2 if required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering design reviews of FPECM Mission Fills.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute laboratory and field-based testing activities.
  • Review technical documentation, verification evidence, and engineering artefacts.
  • Exercise delegated technical authority within approved Defence frameworks.
  • Perform Technical Data Assessments of system data and engineering packages.
  • Support maintenance of the LCRC Engineering Management System.
  • Collaborate with Mission Fill developers to ensure Defence compliance.
  • Contribute to field trials and capability verification activities.
  • Support certification and approval processes.
  • Promote safe engineering practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Working alongside Defence personnel, industry partners, and engineering specialists, you will support the design review, verification, testing, and release of electronic countermeasure Mission Fills in accordance with Defence technical regulatory frameworks and engineering governance processes.
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the Engineering Management System (EMS), reviewing technical documentation, supporting test and evaluation activities, and ensuring mission‑critical capabilities meet Defence standards and operational requirements.
This role offers exposure to highly specialised Defence technology programs and may involve domestic and international travel to support testing activities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct engineering design reviews of Force Protection Electronic Countermeasure (FPECM) Mission Fills.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of laboratory and field-based testing activities.
  • Review and assess technical documentation, verification evidence, and engineering artefacts.
  • Exercise delegated technical authority within approved Defence engineering frameworks.
  • Perform Technical Data Assessments of system data and engineering packages.
  • Support the continuous improvement and maintenance of the LCRC Engineering Management System.
  • Collaborate with Mission Fill developers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with Defence engineering, safety, and assurance requirements.
  • Contribute technical expertise to field trials and capability verification activities.
  • Support engineering governance, technical certification, and approval processes.
  • Promote safe engineering practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ideal Candidate
  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia.
  • Minimum three years' relevant post-graduate engineering experience.
  • Technical Proficiency Level 4, or ability to immediately attain.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering within Defence projects operating under the One Defence Capability System.
  • Experience within Defence Joint or Land domains during the past five years.
  • Experience in the design, integration, or support of RF, communications, electronic warfare, or related systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or ability to achieve.
  • Experience supporting acquisition, delivery, or introduction into service of Defence communications or RF systems.
  • Experience planning and executing Test & Evaluation activities, including DT&E and AT&E.
  • Experience working within Defence engineering management, governance, and certification frameworks.
  • Must have Australian citizenship and a current NV1 Security Clearance with ability to obtain and maintain NV2 if required.
