Job summary

Townsville City Council is seeking a dedicated water operations professional to coordinate site access, permits and safety for Bulk Water Treatment. You will monitor flushing, test chlorine residuals, and respond to water quality issues across the network.

The role involves on-call duties every six weeks, plus overtime as needed to support emergency works and disaster management. A strong team player with a safety-first mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Mandatory qualifications include a valid 'C' class driver's licence.
• Mandatory 'MR' driver's licence (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Construction Industry White Card (30215 QLD) is required.
• Ability to work in a team to prevent interruptions to water supply.

Division/Section: Infrastructure and Operations / Water

Position Type: Permanent Full-Time (9 day fortnight, 38 hours/week)

Salary Range: Base Salary $67,622 per annum + super

Location: Townsville

You will support the Water Team by coordinating site access, permits and safety requirements, ensuring water operations and maintenance activities are delivered safely and efficiently.

Playing a key part in major planned and reactive maintenance, you'll help minimise downtime, reduce costs and ensure the ongoing performance of critical water assets.

Working within Bulk Water Treatment, you'll focus on flushing reticulation mains, monitoring water quality through chlorine residual testing, and responding to water quality issues across the network.

This role is required to participate in the on-call roster (every 6 weeks, minimum) and overtime arrangements as required, to resolve out of hours operational issues or emergency works including disaster management.

Qualifications And Experience

There are certain qualifications that are required and others than can be obtained upon commencement and these include:

Mandatory

• Current "C" class driver's licence.
• Current "MR" class driver's licence (or ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment).
• Construction Industry White Card (30215 QLD).
• Ability to work as part of a team of employees to ensure that interruptions to water supply to Council customers is averted or rectified quickly and efficiently.
• Strong community and customer relations skills.
• Strong work ethic.

Desirable

• Sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety, Environmental Protection, Equal Employment Opportunity, Anti-discrimination and privacy obligations, and QLD Local Government Act.
• Traffic Management Implementation course accredited.
• Successfully completed asbestos awareness training and have suitable experience in removal of asbestos piping.
• Dogman or Crane Chaser certification.
• Forklift certification.
