About the Role: Our Client is a government organisation working on critical scientific research projects throughout Australia. They are currently seeking a Research Lab Technician to work in their industrial Coal research facility, for a 12-month, full-time contract with the potential for extension.
Responsibilities include:
- Participate in laboratory and pilot scale experimental working heavily with coal.
- Collecting and processing experimental data on an ongoing basis to a high degree of accuracy.
- Preparing data and reports for internal and external customers.
- Maintaining and upgrading laboratory and pilot scale equipment.
- Developing and maintaining expertise in the area of coke making relevant to Carbon Steel Materials research activities.
Selection Criteria: To be successful in this role you will have:
- Relevant trade certificate/diploma/bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Experience in metallurgy, pyrometallurgy, mineral processing, science, chemical engineering and/or prior employment with a commercial laboratory.
- Work experience in the minerals industry, particularly carbon steel materials, or construction industry. Knowledge or research experience in coke making is advantageous.
- Demonstrated hands-on ability to conduct laboratory and pilot scale experiments, to prepare feed materials, to collect and analyse test data, and to interpret and report results to supervisors.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct analytical test work to a high degree of accuracy in strict adherence to established procedures.
- Current Manual Drivers Licence and National Forklift ticket would be desirable but not essential.
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a team environment, utilise resources effectively, meet deadlines, and adapt to a dynamic work environment while maintaining work quality and performance.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills demonstrated by an ability to comprehend and convey detailed instructions/procedures. Intermediate to advanced computing skills.
