The Role

The ABC's Western NSW team is looking for their next Reporter, News. This is a contract role for 10 months where you'll gain valuable experience and have the opportunity to share the stories of local people and the community.

From NSW's largest indigenous populations, the culturally diverse communities of the region and the evolving challenges of country towns - you'll be on the road, reporting on news to the many platforms of the ABC. Western NSW has an impressive agricultural, renewable energy, infrastructure and mining industry and a thriving economy.

The Job

Reporting to the Editor, ABC Western Plains and working together within a small team, you will;

  • Create accurate, concise and clear news content (for broadcast, social media and online)
  • Present news bulletins, Q&A's, interviews and packages
  • Work closely and effectively with Producers, Editors, and colleagues in the Newsroom and around the network
  • Actively identify news content that can travel to other areas across the ABC
Position Description
About You

You will be an experienced journalist with a proactive, can-do approach to creating interesting and innovative news content. You will have well developed cross-platform production skills, a thorough understanding of the issues and events important to the diverse local community and sound presenting skills. You will also have experience:

  • Sourcing and breaking news, and generating original stories in a news environment
  • Managing your time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Communicating easily and working as part of a team in the Regional office
