Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) invites a Remote Area Nurse to join their multidisciplinary team in Kutjungka Region (Mulan Community) on a full-time roster 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off. Reporting to the Health Centre Manager, you will deliver coordinated primary health and emergency care to clients and their community.

About Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS was formed to provide a unified voice for Aboriginal health and wellbeing, and to deliver centralised resources and collective advocacy in partnership with its Member Services. KAMS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of Aboriginal health leaders from across its Member Services.

KAMS is a proud member of the Aboriginal Health Council of WA (AHCWA), the Council of Aboriginal Services Western Australia (CASWA), and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO).

Position Overview

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services has an opportunities for a Remote Area Nurse to join their friendly, multidisciplinary team in Kutjungka Region (Mulan Community), on a full time basis, roster 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off. Reporting to the Health Centre Manager, you will be required to work as part of a team delivering coordinated and comprehensive Primary Health and emergency care to clients and their community. Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake a range of responsibilities including:

• Provide professional, evidence-based primary health care to individuals, families and the community utilising a holistic and culturally acceptable approach.
• Practice according to KAMS endorsed guidelines (Kimberley Protocols, CARPA Standard Treatment Manual etc…), KAMS policies and procedures, and relevant legislation to meet health care outcomes.
• Provide professional, evidence-based primary health care to individuals, families and the community utilising a holistic and culturally acceptable approach.
  • Maintain the competency requirements of the Remote Area Nurse position. Some professional development requirements must be undertaken prior to the commencement of employment or as soon as possible after commencing employment, and maintained as scheduled:
  • Remote Emergency Care Course or equivalent – every 2 years
  • Maternity Emergency Care Course or equivalent – every 2 years
  • Triage Emergency Care - once
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) – every year
  • Pharmicotherapuetics Course– every 5 years
  • Immunisation Provider WA – once plus yearly update
  • 4WD Course – every 5 years
  • Ambulance Stretcher Training – every 2 years

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nursewith a minimum 5 years post graduate experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of comprehensive primary health care, including emergency care.
• Demonstrated good understanding of cultural safety and a commitment to the principles of Aboriginal Community-Controlled health services.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and work as an effective member of a team.

Salary & Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary of $127,618, along with a range of attractive benefits including:

• Annual Airfare of $1,285 per annum pro rata (after 12 months continuous service).
• Accommodation provided whilst in community
• Isolation Airfare of $2,000 reimbursement
• Retention Bonus of $10,000 (after 2 years of continuous service and 12 months thereafter)
• Availability Allowance of 25% of base salary.
