Utilities Commission

Darwin

Two full time ongoing vacancies are available

Leverage your knowledge and experience in regulating essential services or utilities to help safeguard the consumer interest of Territorians.

The Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) plays a crucial role as a key agency within the Northern Territory Government, offering specialised financial, economic, and commercial advice.

Similarly, the Utilities Commission, an independent statutory authority, focuses on the economic regulation of electricity, ports, and water and sewerage industries in the region. With a primary goal of safeguarding consumer interests in terms of pricing, reliability, and quality, the Commission benefits from support staff seconded from the DTF.

Responsibilities

Principal Regulatory Officer (AO7) – leadership is key as you oversee research and critical analysis of economic regulation across various utility industries. Your responsibilities include developing and delivering precise, evidence-based solutions and advice to the Commissioner and other stakeholders on both complex and straightforward issues.

Regulatory Officer (AO5) – your role involves contributing to research and critical analysis within the same industries. You play a vital part in the development and communication of accurate, clear, and evidence-based solutions, assisting in major reviews and projects, and providing administrative support to the Office of the Commission.

Qualifications and Skills

Both positions necessitate a blend of advanced conceptual, research, and analytical skills, coupled with effective interpersonal and communication abilities. Working effectively in a small, high-performing team, with the ability to self-motivate, and manage competing priorities are essential.

Applicants with tertiary qualifications in economics, commerce, law, public policy or administration, and a background in the regulation of essential services or utilities will be highly regarded for these positions.
