Chandler Macleod is seeking an Experienced Assistant Director - Legal & Compliance in Canberra, ACT, on a hybrid 6-month contract. You will advise on complex regulatory and licensing matters, conduct legal research, and prepare executive documentation while coordinating with government agencies and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Strong legal, regulatory and analytical abilities to interpret complex legislation and policy.
• Experience preparing briefs, submissions and executive-level documentation.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within timeframes.
• Sound understanding of government, regulatory or compliance environments.
• High attention to detail, strong judgement and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal, regulatory and compliance advice across a range of complex matters.
• Conduct detailed research and analysis of legislation, policy, regulatory frameworks and industry developments.
• Prepare briefs, submissions, reports, executive papers and decision-making documentation.
• Support compliance monitoring activities, assessments and investigations.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to process improvements, risk identification and continuous enhancement of regulatory practices.
