Job summary

Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Nursing Midwifery Support Unit in the Cairns region. The role supports Cairns Hospital, Gordonvale Hospital and nearby wards, focusing on backfilling leave and roster deficits with qualified nursing staff.

The successful applicant will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, uphold clinical standards, ensure patient safety, and contribute to quality improvements while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with individuals, peers, and the healthcare team to achieve goals and positive health outcomes.
• Demonstrate knowledge and application of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards related to nursing clinical practices.
• Maintain patient safety by identifying risk and undertaking safe work activities in the clinical environment.
• Provide support, preceptorship, supervision and mentoring to the healthcare team as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care in collaboration with individuals, peers, and the healthcare team to achieve goals and positive health outcomes across the health continuum.
• Demonstrate sound knowledge and application of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards specifically related to nursing clinical practices.
• Maintain the safety of recipients of healthcare services by identifying risk and undertaking safe work activities within the clinical practice environment.
• Participate in incident investigation and quality improvements to promote safe and/or rectify unsafe practice.
• Provide support, guidance, preceptorship, supervision and mentoring to healthcare team as appropriate.
