Job summary

SA Health in Adelaide invites Registered Nurses to join the 2027 Graduate Diploma Mental Health Program at Flinders Medical Centre. You will develop specialist mental health skills while delivering recovery-focused care across Adelaide's southern metro.

This 12-month contract offers structured training, a supportive team, and essential clinical experience for nurses beginning their mental health specialty. Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, you will deliver safe, person-centred mental health

Qualifications

• Registered as a Nurse by the Nursing/Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) with a current practicing certificate.
• Must be enrolled in an approved mental health course.
• Effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient needs, plan and coordinate service delivery from multiple options.
• Provide direct person-centred nursing care with increasing autonomy.
• Participate in quality improvement activities for patient safety and safe practice.

About the role:

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, this role is responsible for delivering safe, person-centred mental health nursing care within a multidisciplinary team at Flinders Medical Centre, while applying and integrating the clinical knowledge developed through your Graduate Diploma studies into everyday practice.

Duties for the role will include:

• Assess individual patient/client needs, plan, implement and/or coordinate appropriate service delivery from a range of accepted options including other disciplines or agencies,
• Provide direct person-centred nursing/midwifery care and/or individual case management to patients/clients on a shift-by-shift basis in a defined clinical area with increasing autonomy over time,
• Participate in quality improvement activities that contribute to patient/client safety, risk minimisation and safe work activities within the practice setting,
• Provide health promotion and education, to patients/clients or groups and carers to improve the health outcomes of individual,
• Participate in evaluative research activities within the practice setting

About you:

• Registered as a Nurse by the Nursing/Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and who holds a current practicing certificate. Must be enrolled in an approved mental health course,
• Effective communication skills including, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills,
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team,
• Demonstrated competence in mental health nursing practice in accordance with the relevant standards
