Job summary

Australian Red Cross Lifeblood in Shepparton is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Donor Centre team. You will deliver excellent donor care, perform screening and blood collection duties, and ensure safety and efficiency in the donation process.

You will work across a rotating roster with varied shifts, delivering compassionate service while contributing to Australia’s blood supply. AHPRA registration and Bachelor of Nursing are required, with training and support provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) with current AHPRA registration.
• Ability to interview donors and assess eligibility.
• Strong communication and patient-care focus in a busy donor centre.

Responsibilities

• Greet and interview potential donors to assess eligibility and suitability.
• Provide clinical oversight and guide team in blood collection processes.
• Perform routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests.
• Setup and operate collection equipment and machines.
• Insert and remove needles safely for whole blood, plasma and platelets.
• Support donors during and after donation and manage adverse reactions.

As a Registered Nurse, you will bring your fantastic customer-facing skills and passion to deliver an exceptional service, while working together to ensure Australia's supply of blood products.

A day in the centre could see you:

• Greet and interview potential donors to understand their eligibility and suitability to donate
• Provide clinical oversight and guide other team members in the blood collection process
• Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests
• Set up machines and collections equipment
• Insert and remove needles safely to collect whole blood, plasma, and platelets
• Manage adverse donor reactions by providing instructions and physical assistance
• Monitor donors post-donation and assist them to rebook for their next donation

Our paid and flexible self-paced training program has a balance between on-the-job practice and online class schedules to ensure that you are well supported. Besides having a real passion to deliver an exceptional donor experience, you'll need to be able to:

• Occasionally lift between 9-22.7kgs
• Frequently stand, walk and bend to set up and pack down machines and blood products
• Utilise your expertise having completed a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) and hold a current AHPRA registration
• Be flexible to work varied shifts on a fortnightly rotating roster from Monday to Sunday, including weekends and afternoon shifts
• Have your own vehicle and driver's licence. If applicable
