Job summary

NSW Department of Communities and Justice in Port Macquarie is seeking a JCPRP Caseworker to assess safety and risk for children and young people within a multi-disciplinary service model.

The role requires frontline experience in statutory child protection and a degree in Social Work or related fields, with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Relocation may be supported as part of regional NSW opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years' frontline experience in statutory child protection services.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Social Science and Welfare (or related) with practical experience.
  • Other related degrees considered with relevant knowledge and experience.
  • Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander with strong community connection.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s licence (P1 or above).
  • Paid Working with Children clearance number.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake assessments to identify and address safety and risk concerns for children and young people.
  • Engage in collaborative, child-focused practice respectful of culture and context.
  • Source timely, accurate information and make evidence-based decisions.
  • Model ethical casework responsive to changing needs.
  • Build relationships with partners to deliver holistic services.
  • Develop networks with JCPRP and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in continuous learning to keep practice knowledge current.
  • Maintain accurate client records for reporting and information sharing.
  • Have difficult conversations to mitigate risks and enhance safety.
  • Initiate action in the Children’s Court when required.
