The program

The Accommodation Centre provides a welcoming home away from home for people travelling from rural and remote areas to receive medical treatment at the Mackay Base Hospital. The Centre provides accommodation to clients of the Hospital. The Centre is designed to reflect the Red Cross wellbeing model, with its sense of openness, welcome and homeliness, mirroring health and recovery.

The opportunity

For this role you will need the ability to communicate with a diverse cross section of the community, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, have demonstrated time management and organisational skills to coordinate administrative functions and be proficient in utilising MS Office, particularly MS Excel, or similar packages. Your ability to use initiative and work with minimum supervision as well as take direction and work as part of a team, be reliable and flexible to work on a range of tasks will also be an asset.

Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network.

As a volunteer, you will help those travelling for medical treatment feel at home and ease their recovery by listening, empathising, and providing them with a friendly voice.
