Job summary

Metro is seeking an experienced Software Engineer for our Collins St office in Melbourne. You will work on real-time mission-critical systems for customer information and fleet management, contributing to software development and system updates for major infrastructure projects.

You’ll use C++, Java, JavaScript and Linux in a hands-on role, collaborating with engineers and staff to configure environments, debug issues and deliver reliable software for the train network.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science or Software Engineering.
• Experience in conducting a variety of software engineering tasks across the SDLC.
• Experience with a broad range of technologies and programming languages on Linux platforms; Java, C++, JavaScript, Angular, React, SQL, Python, Bash, Kafka.

Responsibilities

• Complete tasks across the Software Development Lifecycle on real time mission critical systems and business systems using C++, Java, JavaScript and Linux.
• Liaise with engineering professionals and system users to set up environments, perform integration, resolve problems and manage configurations.
• Investigate and resolve complex issues, implement changes across large interdependent systems and validate software.
• Respond to software issues per SLAs and KPIs and document engineering efforts.
• Prepare engineering and support documentation for handover and support.
• Be included on the 24/7 support roster (on-call after hours).
• Position requires on-site presence at Collins St office three days per week.
