Job summary

The Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale in Mundijong, WA is seeking a confident Ranger to support our Community Safety team. You will balance education, customer service and enforcement across the Shire, with field-based duties and a four-week roster including one weekend shift every four weeks.

Your role includes advising on law, order and public safety, implementing Acts, Regulations and Local Laws, and coordinating with WA Police and agencies to resolve issues effectively.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of Ranger-related statutes, Acts, Regulations, Local Laws and policies.
• Fair, consistent and professional enforcement of regulatory requirements.
• Strong report writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage challenging interactions and investigations.
• Valid C class driver’s licence and ability to obtain police clearance.
• Knowledge of court procedures and evidence requirements.
• Experience with field-based work and community education.

Responsibilities

• Enforce legislation, local laws and policies, issuing infringements when required.
• Investigate ranger-related matters: animal control, litter, parking and impounding.
• Patrol the district and respond to after-hours callouts.
• Provide written and verbal advice to community, landholders and staff.
• Prepare prosecution briefs and attend court or tribunals as needed.
• Support community education and maintain records and reports.

Are you a confident and community-minded Ranger who can balance education, customer service and effective enforcement? We want to hear from you. We are seeking a practical and professional Ranger to join our Community Safety team.

The Role:

In this role, you will provide advice on matters relating to law, order and public safety, while implementing delegated Acts, Regulations, Local Laws and Council policies across the Shire. You will work closely with community members, landholders, WA Police, government agencies and internal teams. Your ability to investigate matters thoroughly, communicate clearly and manage challenging situations professionally will be essential. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced regulatory professional who enjoys field-based work, community education, investigation and practical problem-solving. This role includes participation in a four-week roster cycle, involving one weekend shift in every four weeks In this role, some of your key accountabilities will include:

• Enforce relevant legislation, local laws and Council policies, including issuing infringements where required.


• Investigate and respond to ranger-related matters, including animal control, litter, parking and vehicle impounding.


• Undertake patrols of the district, Council assets and buildings, and respond to after-hours callouts where required.


• Provide clear written and verbal advice to the community, landholders and Shire officers.


• Prepare prosecution briefs, notices, summonses and evidence, and attend court or tribunal proceedings as required.


• Support community education activities and maintain accurate records, correspondence and reports.

Key attributes we are looking for include:

• Working knowledge of Ranger-related statutes, Acts, Regulations, Local Laws and policies.


• Demonstrated ability to enforce regulatory requirements fairly, consistently and professionally.


• Sound conflict resolution skills and the confidence to manage challenging interactions.


• Strong report writing, verbal communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.


• A general knowledge of court procedures and evidence requirements.


• A valid C class driver's licence, the ability to meet the physical requirements of the role and eligibility to obtain a police clearance.


• TechnologyOne experience, a current Senior First Aid Certificate, local district knowledge and the ability to drive in varied conditions will be highly regarded.
