Job summary

Metro Trains Melbourne is seeking an experienced Occupation Safeworking Planner to oversee the safe planning and delivery of safeworking across the network, ensuring works are carried out safely and with minimal disruption to passengers.

In this role you will coordinate access, resolve clashes, support policy development, and work with MTM Operations and external teams to drive continuous improvement in safeworking practices.

A collaborative, safety‑first culture is core to Metro.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in safeworking, rail operations or related network environments.
  • Experience coordinating across Infrastructure, operations and external teams is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate safeworking protection for Metro Tunnel occupations and resolve clashes.
  • Assess passenger-facing impacts and collaborate with MTM Operations on disruption planning.
  • Provide safeworking guidance and resourcing numbers for projects.
  • Help develop safeworking policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Work with AROs, Projects and Third Parties to ensure access and on‑time delivery.
  • Conduct onsite visits and carry out safeworking risk assessments.

We are looking for an experienced Occupation Safeworking Planner to play a key role in the safe planning and delivery of Metro Tunnel occupations across the network. In this role, you’ll ensure works are carried out safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to passengers. You will provide expert guidance, coordinate access, and help drive continuous improvement in safeworking practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate safeworking protection for all Metro Tunnel occupations, resolving clashes and ensuring alignment across Infrastructure and external teams
  • Assess and manage passenger-facing impacts, working closely with MTM Operations on disruptive and non‑disruptive occupation planning
  • Assist with safeworking queries, providing safeworking advice and resourcing numbers
  • Support the development of safeworking policies, procedures, and best-practice frameworks
  • Work collaboratively with AROs, Projects and Third Parties to ensure access, streamlined occupations and successful work delivery
  • Conduct onsite visits to carry out safeworking risk assessments for upcoming occupations.
  • Design Protection Diagrams using Adobe software in accordance with all current Metro policies and procedures.
About You
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in safeworking, rail operations, and network environments
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop (preferred)
