Job description

About Us

RATP Dev Western Sydney Airport (RDWSA) is a subsidiary of the RATP Group, a global leader in high-capacity urban rail and the world's third largest public transport operator.

Our 25,000 people design, operate, maintain and modernise urban and interurban transportation networks. We serve more than 100 cities in 17 countries, delivering tailored mobility solutions that address each community's unique environmental, social, and economic challenges.

We build, deliver and commit for the best of public transport every day, everywhere, for everybody, making it the natural choice for cities and passengers.

As an Operator & Maintainer to the Australian Federal and NSW Governments, Parklife Metro is leading a transformative metro project connecting St Marys to Bradfield and the new Western Sydney International Airport.

The Parklife Metro (PLM) consortium, comprising Plenary, RATP Dev, Siemens and Webuild, is delivering the Stations, Systems, Trains and Operations & Maintenance (SSTOM) package for the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project.

RDWSA will proudly operate and maintain six new stations, 12 metro trains, core rail systems, and a state-of-the-art stabling and maintenance facility at Orchard Hills for 15 years following commencement of operations.

About The Role

As a Traffic Controller, you will be a key member of the Operations Control Centre (OCC), supporting the safe and efficient movement of trains across the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport network.

During the Test & Commissioning phase, you will work closely with the D&C contractor to support and facilitate testing and commissioning activities, helping to establish the operational capability and readiness of the new metro network ahead of passenger services.

As the project progresses into operations, you will be responsible for regulating train services, managing train movements between the mainline and the Stabling and Maintenance Facility, responding to incidents and degraded operating conditions, and supporting the delivery of a safe and reliable service for our customers.

This is a safety-critical, shift-based role requiring strong operational judgement, attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and decisive in complex or rapidly changing situations.

  • Train Movement & Operational Control: Manage train movements across the mainline and within the Stabling and Maintenance Facility, including shunting, test track movements and access to the transfer zone.
  • Test & Commissioning: Support the D&C contractor throughout testing and commissioning activities, ensuring train movements and operational activities are undertaken safely and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Network Operations: Regulate train services and support the delivery of the timetable during normal, degraded and emergency operating conditions.
  • Incident & Degraded Operations: Respond to incidents, implement degraded operating modes and support service recovery in collaboration with the wider OCC team.
  • Service Monitoring: Monitor Automatic Train Supervision (ATS), Digital Station and Power Management (DSPM) and other operational systems, identifying faults and taking appropriate action.
  • Customer Service & Communication: Provide timely customer information, respond to onboard Help Point requests and deliver customer announcements based on real-time operational requirements.
  • Operational Readiness: Support the development and establishment of safe, effective operational practices as the project transitions from Test & Commissioning into passenger operations.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain safety as the highest priority, identifying hazards, recording risks and implementing appropriate controls in accordance with Network Rules, Standard Operating Procedures and other applicable requirements.
  • Reporting: Accurately record events, actions and operational information in the OCC logbook and maintain clear communication with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
