Job description

Cross River Rail Delivery Authority – Sydney CBD NSW

Cross River Rail Delivery Authority (CRRDA)…Your chance to work with the best!

The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is building a new 10.2km rail line that includes 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD; with four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street.

Once complete, it will provide trains with a much-needed alternative rail path through the core of the current SEQ Rail network, unlocking a bottleneck and allowing more trains to run more often across the whole of South East Queensland.

The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is also delivering multiple supporting projects and activities in conjunction with the Department of Transport and Main Roads. These include accessibility rebuilds for eight surface stations, construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast; upgrades for stabling yards; track works and surface rail enhancements; and the introduction of a new ETCS digital signalling system.

About the Role

Bring your real-world rail operations experience to help prepare Cross River Rail for safe and effective railway operations. As part of the Lead Integrator team, you will support the operational integration, readiness, validation and assurance of new infrastructure and systems within the broader Queensland Rail network.

Reporting to the Rail Operations Design Manager, you will work with project teams, Queensland Rail, the Department of Transport and Main Roads and contractors to ensure operational requirements are practical, integrated and fit for purpose. Your work will connect operating scenarios and requirements with procedures, testing activities and assurance evidence that support railway opening.

This is a hands‑on specialist role combining expert operational advice, procedure validation, site‑based testing and issue resolution. It offers the opportunity to apply your experience across complex railway interfaces and help turn technical requirements into workable operational outcomes.

This opportunity is offered as a fixed term contract until early 2029. The successful applicant will be required to be based out of South East Queensland. Relocation assistance is available and will be discussed with suitable applicants.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate operational integration and readiness activities across project teams, delivery partners and agencies.
  • Coordinate inputs across agencies and delivery partners to align operational priorities, program milestones, contract requirements and stakeholder needs.
  • Provide expert rail operations advice to inform opening plans, readiness decisions and operational issue resolution.
  • Manage outstanding Safety Related Application Conditions (SRACs) and Operational and Maintenance Requirements (OMRs) and progress operational scenarios through endorsement and service testing.
  • Translate SRACs and OMR’s and operational scenarios into practical procedures and documentation, ensuring consistency and traceability.
  • Provide expert reviews of SEMS procedures and O&M manuals against approved operational scenarios.
  • Develop procedure validation scripts, coordinate testing plans and resources, and manage validation records, configuration, status and issue tracking.
  • Oversee site-based procedure validation, assess outcomes and coordinate issue resolution.
  • Align procedure validation activities with customer readiness requirements.
  • Facilitate technical working groups, coordinate specialist inputs and prepare executive and governance briefings.
  • Identify and assess operational risks, issues and opportunities, support mitigation and resolution strategies, and improve operational readiness processes.
About You:
  • Extensive knowledge of high-capacity metropolitan passenger rail operations and principles, including operational planning, relevant legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Strong understanding of operational interfaces between signalling, train control, traction power, rollingstock and critical infrastructure, including Platform Screen Doors, Automatic Train Operation and tunnel ventilation.
  • Experience applying rail operations expertise to operational integration, readiness, testing and commissioning, procedure validation and the introduction of new or modified railway systems.
  • Ability to review operational scenarios, procedures, manuals and testing documentation using systems engineering principles, and translate technical material into clear procedures, briefings, reports and presentations.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, with the credibility to build trust, influence outcomes and collaborate across organisational and technical interfaces.
  • Proven project coordination or project management capability in a complex delivery environment.
  • Relevant rail qualifications, including a minimum Certificate IV in Rail Safety Management.
Why work with CRRDA?

Cross River Rail is at the point where experienced rail professionals have the greatest opportunity to influence outcomes. Integration and readiness are where design intent is tested, risks are resolved, and the long‑term performance of the railway is locked in.

Working within the Lead Integrator exposes you to whole‑of‑system decision making, operational interfaces and delivery challenges that build genuinely transferable senior capability. It is an environment that develops future rail leaders, not just specialists in a single discipline.

Beyond the role itself, relocating to Queensland offers a compelling lifestyle shift. Brisbane combines the professional depth of a major capital city with shorter commutes, greater work/life balance and exceptional access to outdoor living. With South East Queensland’s strong pipeline of rail and transport investment extending well beyond the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this move can support both immediate opportunity and long‑term career stability.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply for all Cross River Rail Delivery Authority vacancies.
