Job summary

Heidelberg Materials Group is seeking an experienced Quarry Manager to lead the Moama Sand operation. You will own the safe, efficient, and profitable performance of the site, mentoring a small team and actively participating in plant operations.

You will identify sales opportunities and support growth by providing leads to the Territory Sales Manager. The role requires hands-on leadership, strong safety focus, and a track record of delivering operational targets with financial accountability.

Job description

Quarry Manager - Moama Sand Lead. Inspire. Deliver. Are you an experienced leader with a passion for quarry operations, safety, customer service, and continuous improvement? We are seeking a dynamic Quarry Manager to lead our Moama Sand operation and drive operational excellence across all aspects of the business. Reporting to the Area Manager, you will have full responsibility for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the quarry. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will work as part of a small team, leading by example through the operation of mobile plant and processing equipment while overseeing daily site activities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being actively involved in the operation, developing and mentoring a small team, and taking ownership of site performance. In addition to operational responsibilities, you will maintain a strong customer focus and support business growth by identifying sales opportunities and providing leads to the Territory Sales Manager.

About the Role

As Quarry Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing a small, high-performing team while fostering a positive, inclusive, and safety-focused culture.
  • Working as part of the day-to-day operation, including operating mobile plant and running the processing plant as required.
  • Managing quarry operations, including production, processing, maintenance, and logistics.
  • Delivering operational targets through effective planning, resource management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Managing the site's financial performance, including budgets, cost control, forecasting, and profit and loss accountability.
  • Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and legislative requirements.
  • Overseeing quarry development, rehabilitation, environmental management, and asset maintenance programs.
  • Building strong relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, regulators, and the local community.
  • Maintaining a strong customer focus and acting as a key point of contact for site customers.
  • Identifying sales opportunities and providing quality leads to the Territory Sales Manager to support business growth.
  • Driving operational efficiencies while maintaining product quality and exceptional customer service.
  • Promoting a Zero Harm culture through visible leadership and proactive risk management.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience managing a quarry, mining, extractive industry, or similar heavy industrial operation.
  • Experience leading and developing small operational teams in a hands-on environment.
  • A willingness to work alongside your team and actively participate in plant operation and production activities.
  • Proven experience managing operational budgets, KPIs, and financial performance.
  • Sound knowledge of quarry operations, mobile plant, maintenance planning, and production processes.
  • A strong customer focus with the ability to build relationships, identify opportunities, and support sales growth.
  • A strong commitment to workplace health and safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Well-developed problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant qualifications in Quarry Management, Mining Engineering, Extractive Industries, or a related discipline (desirable).
  • Current Driver's Licence.
