Job description

Challenger Limited is an ASX-listed investment management firm managing $128 billion in assets (as at 31 March 2026). Life with us is fast moving and always exciting. Together we’re driving to deliver our vision to provide our customers with financial security for a better retirement. We achieve this goal by providing a work environment where people from diverse backgrounds, with a range of skills and experiences can contribute and succeed.

Quantitative Analyst - Asset-Backed Finance Sydney | Challenger Limited

Are you passionate about financial markets and structured credit? Challenger Investments is seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented Quantitative Analyst to join our Capital Markets & Whole Loans team in Sydney. The role suits professionals with a strong foundation in quantitative disciplines and programming. You will support the cashflow modelling & analysis and ongoing monitoring of whole loan and securitised credit transactions, providing the quantitative rigour that underpins how Challenger deploys capital into these investments. This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit, collaborative team working across a constantly evolving book of transactions, partnering closely with portfolio managers to deliver modelling excellence across the team. You'll build and evolve the data infrastructure and models that power our investment process, with significant opportunity for creativity and innovation.

What you’ll do

Your time will be split across transaction and pipeline modelling, programming-driven automation and data work, and stakeholder collaboration - with the balance shifting depending on what's live in the pipeline at any given time. The role is built around three pillars:

  1. Cashflow Modelling & Data Analysis
    • Build and automate cashflow models - Excel waterfalls for pipeline deals, programming-based models for executed transactions feeding a centralised database.
    • Analyse loan-level datasets and market/economic data to identify trends and build forecasting tools that inform investment decisions.
    • Build user-friendly dashboards to track transaction and portfolio performance.
    • Provide quantitative support across the execution of capital markets transactions.
  2. Operational Efficiency & Infrastructure
    • Develop and enhance tools and systems for transaction reporting, portfolio management and data management.
    • Drive automation and process improvements to reduce risk and increase scalability.
    • Investigate and help implement AI tools to improve efficiency across the investment process.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Manage a diverse range of stakeholders on quantitative tasks, representing Whole Loans across the business.
About the team

You’ll join a close-knit, collegiate team with genuinely diverse professional backgrounds. It's a hands-on, collaborative environment where new team members are actively supported in building their modelling and programming skills.

What we’re looking for

Essential Current experience in a quantitative analyst role within structured finance / securitisation, with hands-on modelling experience. Proficiency in Python, SQL, VBA or equivalent programming languages for financial modelling, data analysis and automation, including interfacing Python with Excel. Intellectual curiosity - someone who wants to understand why a deal is structured a certain way, not just execute the model. Demonstrated ability to design pragmatic solutions to complex financial problems. Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, statistics or a related field. Highly regarded. Understanding of insurance / life company balance sheets and liability-aware investing.

Why Join Challenger?

You'll join a high-performing, intellectually curious team with a clear focus on delivering long-term outcomes for customers. If you're currently doing meaningful transaction modelling work and are ready to take on a role with real balance sheet impact and growing transaction breadth, we want to hear from you. We support your growth and development, offer flexibility, and value the unique contributions people bring. We provide access to a range of exclusive employee benefits that will support you both personally and professionally and a hybrid work environment including.

  • Discretionary bonus scheme
  • Employee share plan
  • Eighteen weeks paid leave for all new parents
  • Flexibility on when, and how, parental leave is taken
  • Challenger Day - one extra day off every year in recognition of the effort our people make
  • Subsidised on-site café and fantastic central location a stone's throw from Martin Place Metro
  • Additional support leave (fertility treatment leave, gender affirmation leave)
  • Access to Fitness Passport
