Job description

Company Description

We're constantly working with some of the world's largest Publishers and most popular AAA games. Here in Australia we have studios located in Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne and employ over two hundred of Australia's leading game professionals. Our studio brands operating under the Keywords Studios group are Tantalus Media (Vic, SA, Qld), and Liquid Development (Vic, SA, Qld).

As one of the regions leading co-development studios our teams work across a variety of projects from ports, DLC and expansion packs, to remasters. The huge variety of game styles, provides a rich and rewarding learning experience for our employees.

This position is preferably based in either Adelaide, Brisbane, or Melbourne (Box Hill or Fitzroy). The role is hybrid.

We are not considering fully remote, and unable to provide sponsorship.

Job Description

We are looking for a thoughtful and collaborative QA Analyst to join our team and help us build high-quality, memorable games for our clients. Embedded directly within a cross-functional feature team, you will focus on the hands-on quality of game features—ensuring deliverables consistently match design specs, technical goals, and client milestone commitments.

In this role, you will act as a trusted quality partner rather than a \"gatekeeper\". Working side-by-side with engineers and designers, you’ll champion thorough testing, catch edge cases early in development. Beyond feature execution, you will help bridge communication between dev teams and QA, refine daily testing workflows, and help build a supportive, positive team culture where everyone feels comfortable sharing feedback.

Key Responsibilities

  • Feature Leadership & Ownership: Lead end-to-end testing and formal sign-offs for specific gameplay features, developing clear test plans to ensure stability and player engagement prior to key milestones. Drive daily responsibilities independently with strong initiative and minimal supervision.

  • Catching Issues Early: Read feature design documents early to spot potential problems or missing details before code is sent to QA. Keep an eye on feature deadlines and let the team know if delays might affect testing.

  • Clear Bug Reporting: Log bugs with clear, step-by-step instructions. Use basic in-game menus, developer commands, or log files (in Unreal, Unity, or custom engines) to help developers quickly understand what went wrong.

  • Working with Developers: Build great relationships with programmers and designers so you can work together to debug complex systems and protect the quality of the game.

  • Daily Workflows: Proven track record in defining project-specific workflows, adhering to QA best practices, and introducing practical optimizations to streamline daily testing, bug triage, and issue reporting.

  • Supporting Teammates: Help less experienced testers set up their test environments, reproduce tricky or intermittent bugs, and double-check bug reports for clarity before sending them to developers.

  • Planning & Estimation: Help plan test tasks across different game builds and give accurate time estimates during team sprint planning.

  • Team Collaboration: Share constructive feedback respectfully, help clear up minor team confusion, and build strong, trusting relationships with developers and designers.

  • Partner Operations: Coordinate with external QA partners to align testing goals, validate deliverables, and maintain product standards.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience: 2–4 years in video game QA, ideally at a co-development studio or working with multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Testing Basics: A solid grasp of standard game testing methods (testing feature functionality, verifying bug fixes, and finding edge-case issues). Experience writing organized test plans using tools like TestRail or Jira.

  • Engine & Debug Basics: Comfort using simple engine debug menus or console commands (in Unreal, Unity, or similar engines) to grab log files and gather basic error details.

  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication. Comfortable talking through bugs and feature behavior with developers and team leads.

  • Time Management: Able to manage your own daily tasks, adapt when project priorities change, and keep test notes organized.

  • Tools: Comfortable using Jira for bug tracking, test planning tools, and Slack for daily team messaging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Game Experience: Personal or professional experience with 4X titles

  • Platform Experience: Experience testing on games consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo) or setting up builds on mobile devices (iOS or Android).

  • Documentation Tools: Familiar with tools like Confluence, Notion, or Google Docs for keeping team guides and test notes up to date.

  • Studio Culture: A collaborative, team-first attitude with a passion for giving supportive feedback and helping teammates succeed.
