Job summary

Canning Construction Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified carpenter for immediate start on their residential projects in Far North Queensland. The role covers framing, fix-out, cladding, decks, patios and renovations across Cairns, the Tablelands and surrounding areas.

The position is full-time with a 12-month probation. You will work on-site across multiple sites, ensuring quality workmanship, safety and adherence to company procedures while contributing to ongoing projects and client satisfaction.

Job description

Canning Construction is looking for a qualified carpenter to join our growing residential construction for an immediate start.

We are a family-run building company based in Far North Queensland, working across new homes, secondary dwellings, renovations, extensions and custom residential projects throughout Cairns, the Tablelands and surrounding areas.

This is a full-time position with a 12-month probation period. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, communicates well, works safely, and wants to be part of a long-term team.

About the role

As a qualified carpenter, you will be involved in a variety of residential building work, including framing, fix-out, cladding, decks, patios, renovation work, extensions, and general carpentry tasks.

You will work across different residential sites and will be expected to follow plans, site instructions, safety requirements and company procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out residential carpentry work to a high standard
• Read and work from plans, drawings and site instructions
• Complete framing, fix-out, cladding, decks, patios and general carpentry tasks
• Assist with new homes, secondary dwellings, renovations and extensions
• Work safely and follow site WHS requirements
• Keep work areas clean, organised and safe
• Communicate site issues, defects or delays early
• Work respectfully with clients, trades, suppliers and team members
• Protect finished work, client property, tools and materials
• Complete timesheets accurately for job costing and payroll
• Follow company procedures and reasonable lawful directions

What we are looking for

• Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience as a trade-qualified carpenter in residential construction
• Current White Card
• Reliable transport
• Own basic carpentry tools
• Strong attention to detail

• Professional attitude around clients and other trades
• Cyclone rated experience
• Ability to work independently at a high standard

What we offer

• $45–$55 per hour, depending on experience

• Flexible start and finish times may be considered where practical with site requirements
• Standard site hours are generally 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, including a 30-minute unpaid meal break. Approved flexible start and finish times may be considered where they work with site needs, supervision, safety and project timelines.
